From Cookie-Cutter Materials to a Brand That Commands Attention
The engagement concluded with eight redesigned sales sheets, optimized content for multiple audiences, and marketing banners — transforming how an engineering and construction services firm presents itself to utility providers, general contractors, and property developers.
CLIENT
PM&A is an engineering and construction services firm with four office locations, serving utility providers, general contractors, and property developers across multiple service categories including structural engineering, MEP, OSP, and climbing services.
CHALLENGE
PM&A’s in-house marketing materials were overly wordy, had a cookie-cutter feel, and didn’t reflect the excellence of their engineering and construction services. They needed customized materials for each service category that would resonate with engineers, building owners, and contractors alike.
RESULTS
Ascent redesigned eight full-color, two-sided sales sheets with distinctive designs for each service category, produced marketing banners for trade shows, and wrote content that speaks to engineers, owners, and contractors — transforming PM&A’s professional image.
Do your marketing materials reflect the caliber of your work?
The Ascent Difference
We transformed cookie-cutter, in-house marketing materials into a suite of professionally designed, audience-specific sales tools — giving an engineering firm the visual presence to match their technical excellence.
PM&A is constantly striving to improve how they present themselves to clients and employees — and for good reason. In engineering and construction services, credibility is communicated before a single word is spoken. When your materials look generic, the assumption is that your services might be too.
Chief Evangelist Greg Hazlehurst described the core problem clearly: PM&A’s existing sales sheets and brochures were created in-house, overly wordy, and had a cookie-cutter feel — every front page looked the same. For a company serving audiences as diverse as Sprint engineers, property developers, and general contractors, a one-size-fits-all approach was undermining their sophistication.
Ascent immersed in PM&A’s culture, services, and audiences through extensive collaboration. Our engagement included:
- Deep discovery into PM&A’s culture, service categories, and audience segments
- Content optimization — writing and refining copy for multiple audience types
- Design concept exploration and final theme selection
- Photography curation from PM&A’s 3,000+ image library
- Eight distinctive, full-color, two-sided sales sheet designs
- Deliverable: Complete sales collateral suite with marketing banners for trade shows
“Ascent did an amazing job in getting to know and understand the PM&A culture. For months they worked closely with us, and were extremely responsive to our needs and flexible when situations changed. The work they did for our company has made a significant difference in how we present to clients.”
Greg Hazlehurst
Chief Evangelist, PM&A
PM&A now has eight professionally designed sales sheets, each with a distinctive front side tailored to its service category: General Overview, Structural Engineering – Telecom, Real Estate Services, OSP Services, MEP Engineering, Climbing Services, Small Cell, and Traditional Structural. The content speaks to engineers, building owners, and contractors — quite the challenge, executed precisely.
The marketing banners and refreshed materials have elevated PM&A’s presence at trade shows and client meetings, ensuring their visual identity matches the technical excellence their team delivers every day.
For construction and engineering firms that have invested heavily in technical capabilities, marketing materials often feel like an afterthought. But in a market where decision-makers are evaluating multiple firms simultaneously, the quality of your presentation signals the quality of your work. Professional materials aren’t a cost — they’re a competitive requirement.

Success Story
CLIENT: E-TEC COMMERCIAL ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR
OWNER/PRESIDENT: BJ THOMAS
ANNUAL REVENUE(2017): $1.2 MILLION
NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES: 11
FOUNDED: 2005
Background
After growing E-TEC to $800,000 in revenues by 2015, Owner BJ Thomas was feeling seriously overwhelmed. Swamped by an endless array of details and unwilling to delegate, he was quickly losing passion for his business. Employee morale was plummeting and finding quality time for family was getting tougher every day. BJ was thinking of getting out.
ASCENT DIGS DEEP
In getting to know PM&A, Ascent learned that the company is constantly striving to improve the way it presents itself to clients and its own employees. The problem lay primarily in their marketing materials, which did not reflect the excellence of the engineering and construction services they provided.
Greg Hazlehurst, Chief Evangelist for PM&A, explained that the company had a combination of sales sheets and brochures that were created in-house. The material was overly wordy and had a cookie-cutter feel. For example, the front page of every sales sheet looked exactly the same.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT GOALS
ASCENT STEPS UP
The Ascent team spent hours examining, revising and optimizing content on the brochures and sales sheets, including layouts, images and fonts. Ascent wrote most of the content and spoke frequently with Greg Hazlehurst to nail down the copy. The whole project took several months longer than anticipated. One reason was the time spent sifting through PM&A’s file of 3,000+ photographs. In addition to copy and photos, Ascent also produced marketing banners for trade shows.
“Ascent did an amazing job in getting to know and understand the PM&A culture. For months they worked closely with us, and were extremely responsive to our needs and flexible when situations changed. The work they did for our company has made a significant difference in how we present to clients.”
Greg Hazelhurst
A STRONG RELATIONSHIP
During the many hours spent with PM&A, Ascent learned that the Greg Hazlehurst was very particular about the images he wanted to use in the marketing materials. As a result, there was plenty of good-humored back-and-forth between Ascent and Greg.
